Ben Macdhui and the Fiacaill Ridge

On our way up onto the Fiacaill Ridge and the Cairngorm plateau we stumbled upon someone that was as curious of us as we were of it; maybe the poor bird was having trouble deciding what season it was. In all fairness I wouldn't blame it as there had been significant snowfall over the last couple of days to warrant a Wintry looking landscape with multiple inches in places. If only we had our winter gear we could have managed a gully or two...

A scramble up through a mixture of dry and wet rock saw us topped out on the plateau preceding a stomp through the snow up to the 'Grey Man'. The weather held off most of the time with only a few 'pea soup' moments.
The worst of the weather seemed to stay back nearer Cairngorm but as we headed back it cleared for us just in time to reach the top of the Goat Track and the arrival of an RAF rescue helicopter. I can only presume they were on a training exercise as i couldn't find any mention of any rescues or incidents thus far.

On our way down to the car park the snow came in again and didn't ease off until we reached the shelter of Coire Cas.
