Creag Dhubh, The Great Wall, King Bee

Lena Brune starting 'King Bee' VS 5a

Lena checking out the shallow corner on the first pitch before the main traverse right

About to approach the traverse

The traverse under the roof is awkward and steep, needing a determined and bold approach..

Pulling through the technical crux on the bulge on pitch 2

Crux , done..

The weather forecast promised so much more!! There was supposed to be clear skies with no rain and a perfect day for climbing... So of course it was overcast and spitting drizzle - with a cold light wind! Optimistically the approach to Creag Dhubh, near Aviemore was made, searching for a piece of blue in the sky, wrapped up in down and fleece!
Putting on climbing shoes with drizzle in the air and lots of wet rock seemed like an obvious mistake, but the route was covered with overhangs so there was a chance of dry rock.. Then it happened - pulling onto the first pitch, the clouds broke, blue appeared and all was dry!
The climb was a little awkward but awesome.. After the abseil, and drive back, the clouds joined and the rain returned with a vengeance - we got the only dry piece of the weekend :) awesome..
