A first taste of multpitch: Eagle Ridge

Sam and i ventured into Lochnagar yesterday to hopefully prove the weather predictions wrong. It would be her first multipitch climb and a brave undertaking at that due to its exposure in the corrie. Forecasts were for rain showers and low cloud but we were fortunate enough to enjoy some sunshine and good visibility.

Sam ready for action!
We had a late start as we left the car at the Loch Muick car park nearer 10am. The walk in was quite speedy and only had a spot of rain as we neared the col before descending into the corrie.
After a quick bite to eat we waited for the couple in from of us to get established on the second pitch before we began.

As usual after recent rain the first pitch was quite wet and slimy to an extent which made for cold hands and interesting climbing. We decided to climb in boots but took rock shoes just in case.

As always the views were excellent when the cloud stays above the corrie.

Placing gear on the second pitch above the belay.

The belay stance in the sentry box can be a nice sheltered relief form the exposure on the rest of the route. Although having rucksacks on our backs always makes maneuvering that little bit more interesting in tight spaces.

Unfortunately a mixture of the camera strap breaking and time wearing on forced the taking of photographs to stop. We topped out at 9.30pm and began our descent in the mist as the clouds had dropped significantly as i started the last pitch.
After a brisk walk back down the track to the car, leaving the car park at 11:15! We headed back to Aberdeen for tea, food and a nice warm soak in the bath.
