Mountain Leader Training Expedition

Amongst being busy with work at Transition and family life I had some time to help out Pete Hill by running a ML training exped on Wednesday and Thursday this week.

The six candidates worked well in the extensive low cloud shrouding the Cairngorms as we made our way from the Ski centre onto the plateau looking at various topics included in the syllabus such as group management, environmental impact and awareness, hazard avoidance and navigation.

Looking west from the upper slopes of Ben Macdhui towards Cairn Toul and Angels Peak.

After setting up camp on the upper slopes of Ben Macdhui and enjoying a hot meal we set off to bag the second highest summit in the UK for the guys who hadn't been up there.  Following watching the sun go do down it was time for more navigation; this time in the dark and a lot more testing for the trainees.

From the mist we came and into the mist we go.

Thursday provided a fresh coating of low cloud with only brief glimpses of distant hills.

Peter, Alan, Lee, Donald, Robbie & Tim.

Well done to the super six!
