Here's a wee catch up on a half days action last week:
I took Sam out for her first winter day on Monday last week. We eventually arrived at the Cairngorm car park just before midday due to a combination of dropping Aila off at her grandparents and the both of us being sleepy heads in the morning. After a brisk walk into the corrie we had the choice of a surprising number of routes due to the mobs of climbers being well established on their routes; thus providing us with some breathing space.
We headed for Fluted Buttress and began the ascent up Central Gully and onto the Buttress in amongst Central and the Runnel to give us some Grade II climbing.
Conditions were nice and solid with only a minor battle through the fresh powder for placements and gear.
Topping out with the clouds closing in we packed up and headed back to the car via the cairn at spot height 1141. No wind, good visibility, great conditions and getting home safely equals a brilliant and successful day out in my book.
Sam enjoyed her first winter climb keeping in mind that the weather and conditions aren't always that nice!
Look out for a post up tomorrow (Tuesday) on Saturdays action on Hells Lum on what was to be another amazing day out!
