Friday was day 5 of our Snow and Ice climbing course with Roger and Fred. The weather and snow has been difficult all week and we have had to work to climb in the wind and avalanche prone conditions. On Friday we headed back to the Ben - in a vehicle without winter tyres! So we had to park low on the Ben track - hardship!! After our walk in this is the view of the forming CIC cascades.. Not there yet...
We got above the CIC to discover the crouds that had descended upon the Douglas area. There were once again many groups on the SW ridge, 2 teams on Vanishing Gully, Fawlty Towers and Gutless, among others.. Wanting to avoid all other teams we chose to climb 1934 Route Direct - with the ice shown above..
It was a difficult week, but we managed a fair bit of climbing. Roger and Fred have come back again and again to Jagged Globe for these climbing courses and in the last few years have never been lucky with the weather. This year they definitely experienced full Scottish weather - and I hope they'll be back for more...
