This week, working for Jagged Globe, I'm working on an Intro to Winter Mountaineering course with Charles, Dave, Freya and Sharon. We had a difficult day 1 with strong winds and lots of rain - a great introduction to Scotland! We got to Aonach Mor, Nevis Range as the Gondola was put on hold, so we set off walking up. Eventually the determined team got to the snow and we were able to work on our movement skills. This was day 1 on crampons for most of the team. After moving to steeper ground and getting pushed around by the wind, the rain soaked team headed back to the hotel for an evening meal and an evening session on winter hazards.
Today was supposed to be an easing into the course, but it turned out to be a heavy day on the legs. With the snow line as it is, it'll be a hard week on the legs!
